We have all during our studies been faced with this feeling of not being able to focus or get on with the work we have to do for our studies. This is often due to a lack of motivation, or a high motivation to do literally anything else than studying. It is much more exciting to spend some time online and virtually hang out with friends than start doing this assignment that has been sitting on our desk for the past two weeks.

Here at Ozford, we like to find ways to overcome the main issues hindering students’ learning by giving them all the tools they need to succeed in their endeavors. To avoid procrastination, we found some apps to help you focus better, whether it is for school or anything that requires your full and undivided attention. Disclaimer: we will not be held liable for the incredible increase in productivity you are about to experience.

The first app of this list is the “Forest” app. Everytime you use the app, it allows you to grow a tree. This tree is kept alive through regularly using the app and not breaking the streak of focusing on your tasks. It also lets you compete against friends, you can see how much progress they have made on their personal forest. Competing against your friends in this race to make the biggest forest works wonders for many who have adopted this app to improve their productivity!

The second app of this list is the “Focus keeper” app. Similarly to the Forest app, it helps you keep focus of your work and studies by setting up timers. This time around you are not growing trees, instead you are breaking down your day in cycles. Each cycle can be customised: for example you can set cycles of 30 minutes, which include 25 minutes of work and 5 minutes of break. It is very convenient being able to customise the cycles as not everyone works at the same rhythm and everyone gets to put in the time they can and want to.

Third on our list is OneNote. It is one of the best apps to organise notes and material. It works a little bit like a white board, where you can type in information, draw, paste pictures, and organise everything in tabs. It is a powerful tool when it comes to organisation, because there is a high degree of customisation achievable with this app where you can change the colours of virtually everything.

Fourth is Quizlet. This generally known app reinvented the concept of flashcards by making them fun and interactive, online. You are able to create your own cards by grouping them in sets of similar topic, you will be able to share and work with others by consulting their sets as well. Often, Quizlet has helped students make it through tough quizzes and it might very well be your time to enjoy the power of this app.

Finally, the Flora app, which is very similar to the Forest app, lets you grow trees which are different depending on the type of activity you are undertaking. The tree grows when you successfully spend the whole duration of the timer focusing, and it will die if you leave the app to play games or open social media. By networking with friends on the app, you get to double your productivity and you will each earn additional trees. Moreover, using this app has a real life impact as trees grown in the app will be planted in real forests with the premium package.

We would love to hear some feedback on how these apps affected your use of your time and what other tips or trick have helped you. This would greatly help us give better, more relevant tips to all of our students and in the end promote their success. If you have any doubt or question you’d like to get clarification on, don’t ever hesitate to reach out to any staff member.

We wish our year 12s great success with their upcoming exams, we are sure they will do amazing!
