The Victorian Certificate of Applied Learning (VCAL) program is primarily focused on preparing students for vocational education and for work. VCAL gives you practical work-related experience, as well as literacy and numeracy skills and the opportunity to build important personal skills. Like the Victorian Certificate of Education (VCE), VCAL is an accredited secondary certificate.
There are four compulsory strands in VCAL:
Students can commence VCAL study after completing VCE studies at Year 11.
VCAL in Year 12
Students who undertake the VCE study program in Year 11 may change to the VCAL study for Year 12. Most students will be able to complete the VCAL study in the first semester of Year 12. Students who do not wish to proceed to university at the end of Year 12 should consider this option.
Students who have completed Year 11 in their home country and who have graduated from the Ozford English Language Centre or a similar English language program may also apply for admission to the Ozford VCAL Study Program. The VCAL program will include VCE Units, units from the VET Course.
Satisfactory Completion of Senior VCAL at Ozford High School
A student is awarded a Senior VCAL Certificate when they successfully complete the 10 credits for the five VCAL study units, six VCE study units and the following four Certificate II in Business Units:
Students who start their VCAL and then decide they would like to complete their VCE, are able to transfer between certificates. Any VCE studies successfully completed as part of the VCAL program will count towards the VCE.
A certificate and Statement of Results will be issued to students who successfully complete their VCAL.
