Staying in this weekend? Here’s what Ozford Melbourne suggests.

The spread of the Coronavirus has well and truly caused a great sense of unrest, uncertainty and unease all throughout the world. With social distancing and the importance of staying indoors being actively encouraged by the government and health officials it is important to adhere to this advice. So, here at Ozford Melbourne, we have put together a couple of ideas that can get you through your weekend of staying inside!

Take a virtual tour of the NGV.

Due to the coronavirus, most of Melbourne’s spaces which have occupancy for mass gatherings have closed, including the State Library, stadiums for sporting events with no exception for the NGV. However, thanks to the internet you can actually visit the NGV from the comfort of your own bed, sofa, bath – however you want! The NGV announced that from their website you can take part in virtual tours of some of the exhibitions and collections they have on show! Just head to the NGV channel, where the Kaws: Companionship in the Age of Loneliness virtual tour will be available to visit on March 21, and the Keith Harin Jean-Michel Basquiat: Crossing Lines tour available on March 28.

Watch the MSO live concerts.

With the spreading of the virus this has lead to the shutting down of many of Melbourne’s famous Arts Centres. However, the Melbourne Symphonic Orchestra is refusing to let the closures get them down by ensuring that the people of Melbourne can still watch and listen to their extraordinary performances. This past Monday, the 16th March, the MSO announced that their scheduled performance of Scheherazade would still be taking place via livestream (or it can be watched online if you miss the live performance). They have also decided to put up other concerts too which may have been cancelled – and even better, they’re all free to watch!

Watch a live stream of Melbourne Zoo’s penguins, lions and baby snow leopards.

What better way to uplift your mood than watching some cute animals all from the comfort of your own home? Zoos Victoria have set up livestream sessions from some of the enclosures at Melbourne Zoo and the Werribee Open Range Zoo, of which include snow leopard cubs, penguins, lions and giraffes! We think this is the perfect way to lift your spirits during this time of social distancing.
